Market pricing: Oct-28 57.4% hold / 42.6% hike (down from ~72% Mon, ~58% Fri) · Dec-9 ~51% ≥1 hike · ~71% by Jan.

The delta: NY Fed's Williams (Tue) — "no need for urgency… we have time to gather more information", sees one more hike "late this year." Zerohedge: odds tumbled "from 68% to 44%, with no hike nearly doubling to 56%." The sharpest dovish repricing since the 16 Sep hike.

SEP: 16 of 18 officials still see ≥1 more hike in 2026; Chair Warsh again declined to submit dots. 30Y printed 5.62% intraday — highest since June 2002.

Implication: A dovish crack in a Fed-put-OFF regime is the single most powerful relief valve for high-multiple growth (META/RDDT/QQQU/CBRS). But it is Williams, not Warsh — and Warsh's reaction function remains purely data-dependent. Tonight's PCE decides whether 42.6% holds.

Inflation: Aug monthly CPI 4.0% y/y (up from 3.5% Jul); m/m +0.7% s.a.; trimmed mean steady at 3.6%. Housing +5.7% (electricity +13.2% on rebate unwind; rents +3.6%), transport +5.6% (fuel +13.5% y/y / +14.8% m/m). Released 11:30am AEST today.

RBA: hiked 25bp to 4.60% on 29 Sep (unanimous, 4th hike of 2026, highest since 2011); board keeps "increasing the cash rate target further if needed."

Housing: Cotality 5-cap daily HVI −1.1% MoM (Aug) — Sydney −1.4%, Melbourne −1.1%; national values 3.6% below the March peak; 93% of capital-city suburbs fell over 3 months. Rents +5.7% y/y, vacancy 1.9%.

Implication: A 4.0% headline keeps the November hike live (ANZ & Westpac base case), though Goldman expects a hold. Two-sided for AU banks — NIM tailwind vs rising arrears risk as the housing downturn broadens.

Taiwan Strait Watch ELEVATED

Dated trigger: PRC's revised National Defense Mobilization Law takes effect Thursday 1 October — civilian-asset requisition, integration of high-tech sectors into the military economy, and a trigger that extends to "development interests."

Taiwan: Military Police Command doubling personnel by 2031 to defend Greater Taipei against a PLA decapitation strike; PLA openly trains on mockups of the Presidential Office / Bo'ai Special Zone.

Semis: HBM4 already in high-volume for Micron's/others' lead customers; SK Hynix CEO warns 2027 could be the worst memory-supply year yet. China's CXMT claims 5th-gen DRAM mass production (11.95nm spacing) — a structural medium-term threat to Samsung/SK Hynix/Micron; YMTC is sampling LPDDR.

Trigger indicators (90d): first PLA exercise mounted under the new law · TSMC Arizona/Kumamoto ramp milestones · CXMT/YMTC qualification wins at hyperscalers.

Key driver — physical, not diplomatic: Middle East exports recovered to 17.5M bpd (10-day avg = 98% of pre-war levels); Saudi East-West pipeline half-restored → 3.5M bpd Red Sea flows; covert/"stealth" Hormuz transits lift flows to ~60%; US ordered another 40M bbl SPR release (bids due 6 Oct; reserve headed to lowest since 1982).

Arbitrage-still-broken marker: Urals $110.40 = ~$14 ABOVE Brent (normal discount) — sanctions + war-risk routing have not healed; the spread compression is NOT normalisation.

$100+ Brent flag: RETREATED — was $105–108 Monday. A ~2-month-lagged CPI/PCE relief input, and the reason the Fed just blinked.

AI energy / supply chain: Russia struck Kyiv's Bi-mobile data centre (a main internet exchange) — war now targets AI/comms infrastructure directly. CXMT's DRAM leap = medium-term memory-price risk to the MU/AVGO thesis. Heating oil +98% y/y (diesel remains the sticky CPI channel).

Iran War — Day 215 CRITICAL

Status — diplomatic whiplash: Trump claims the war will end "very soon" (no detail); Iran says it has received the US response to its 7-condition proposal and will discuss it in Tehran on Wednesday. But Iran's military insists the war ends only when the US "admits defeat", and Trump previously rejected Tehran's Hormuz-reopening plan. Iran struck a large crude tanker overnight; an Indian seafarer was killed in the 23 Sep Cape Dao strike.

Oil impact: Brent ~$96 (down ~9% from Monday). Strait formally "closed to commercial shipping by war-risk insurance."

straits.live physicals: Crisis Pressure 88 (EXTREME) · Escalation Forecast 54 (elevated) · 1 commercial transit (27 Sep) vs 85/day norm · VLCC war-risk insurance $10.0M = 40× pre-crisis · 258 vessels stranded · odds of normalisation by 1 Oct = 1%.

US posture: "3 tankers for 1 ship" retaliation doctrine; SPR exchange release; sanctions relief offered only for nuclear progress; 6 P&I clubs withdrawn from the Gulf.

Trigger indicators (30d): Iran's formal answer to the US counter-proposal · a second tanker strike · first direct hit on Saudi/UAE export infrastructure · coalition formation for the "economic D-Day" secondary-sanctions round.

Implication: The diplomatic channel is alive, but the physical chokepoint is still broken — a ~$6.5 Brent-WTI spread and 40× insurance price the truth, not the headlines. A genuine deal is the biggest single downside risk to the oil-corridor inflation trade.

Read: ★ MU (+59.1%) → tonight's Q4 is the book's biggest single-name catalyst; guidance beats are expected, so the FY27 HBM/margin outlook is what will move it. ★ The dovish Fed repricing (10Y −4bp) is a direct tailwind to the five high-multiple names (META, RDDT, CBRS, QQQU, TSXU) — watch whether the relief survives tonight's PCE. ★ AVGO −14.1% and TSM +16.9% leave the semi book levered to the same AI-memory thesis CXMT is now testing. ★ Gold bid + Urals +$14 over Brent = the inflation hedge stays bid even as crude falls.
